ノーベル平和賞を受賞したマザー･テレサの生涯に迫る伝記ドラマ。修道院での活動に限界を感じたテレサは新教会を設立し、困難を乗り越え人々の救済に力を尽くす。
インドのカルカッタ。ガンジー亡き後、現れた救世主。
イギリスからの独立間もない宗教争いの激しい内戦混乱の中、飢え貧しく路上で命を終えようとしている見ず知らずの人達を心から救おうする。
人々のために祈り、人生を捧げた。
いままで貧しく住所を持たず、冬の寒空のなかさまよい歩くホームレスの姿を、幾度か見たことがある。
すぐ傍に駆け寄って、そして両手を合わせ祈りその方のために尽くす。
マザー・テレサのしたことは、時代が違えど現在に置き換えるとそういうことなのかもしれない。
到底、真似できることではない。
神に仕える身として、マザー・テレサは神のこの世でのお姿として神のご意志に従い祈り支え続けた。
国家の元首、首相でもなく、インド人でもない女性がインドの国葬としてマザーテレサが亡くなった時に行われた。
心からインドの人々に宗教、国籍に関わらず支えたシスターに住民が心打たれ尊敬されたからだろう。
